No More Job Satisfaction Blues

I love my jobChris Findley, a former life and career coaching client of mine and an alumnus of the Speak It Forward Boot Camp is living it forward in the most important roles of his life!

He was an amazing client, and not because his vocational journey was ideal or easy. In fact, his situation was one of the most challenging of all the clients I have served over the past several years.

Yet because he was intentional and proactive about answering the question what is success for me, he figured out a way to move from “I hate my job” to “I love my job.” In other words, he is a man who took a hard look at his life goals, career goals, and career objectives, and then he got busy designing the life he truly wanted to live and figuring out a way to make his work fit into that life.

What were the keys to success for Chris? Those two little words above—he was intentional and proactive. What do I mean by intentional and proactive? Check out one of the notes I received from Chris while he was in the midst of his life and career transition…

Go Ahead Already – Make A Decision!

We all face a multitude of decisions every day.

  • Should I focus on a project or catch up on my Facebook status?
  • What should I wear?
  • To exercise or not to exercise?
  • Should I wake up a bit earlier and read a good book or hit the snooze button for the tenth time?
  • Should I change jobs? How about careers?
  • How can I best serve my community?
  • How do I best equip my kids to face the challenges and opportunities in today’s world?

Lots and lots of decisions. Some big; others puny.  Still, the mere volume can feel a bit overwhelming.

If you happen to feel stuck right now on a certain decision, whether big or small, here are a few pointers that might help.

Is Your Heart In It?

Every man is proud of what he does well, and no man is proud of what he does not do well. With the former, his heart is in his work; and he will do twice as much of it with less fatigue. The latter performs a little imperfectly, looks at it in disgust, turns from it, and imagines himself exceedingly tired

Get Out of the Rat Race!

I never really aspired to get into the “rat race.”

The reason?

Well, mainly because I didn’t want to become like the competition!

(Chew on that for a moment.)

Don’t be a rat. Get out of the “race” and start living it forward!

Birthday Card from My Son

Yesterday I posted a short blog about the birthday card I received from my twin daughters.  The card they gave me really fit their personalities.

Not to be outdone, my son’s card fit his personality as well. He LOVES to laugh…and the “dumber” the humor, the better.  And in case you’re wondering, he didn’t pick up this trait from Kathy.  In fact, when Chris and I get to laughing about something we think is hilarious, Kathy and the girls usually give us that smile that says: “It’s really not that funny.”

So, in an effort to stay true to his humor DNA, Chris gave me this card…

Again, in case you can’t read backwards, here’s what the card says:

Guess What, Dad?!

Knowing how you love your lawn,

I got you some of the MOST EFFECTIVE FERTILIZER

Ever made!

HANG ON!  IT’S COMING!

I got a good laugh from this card!  And again, I’m a happy dad, and his card made my day.

Plead guilty and often to loving your family and friends.
