Career Planning – Pain or Passion?

In career planning, there are two motivations that cause a person to take action and get moving — PAIN and PASSION. I have experienced both motivations in career planning. You probably have as well.

Pain PUSHES us towards our career objectives even though our heels might be dug in. It tells us something is wrong. It causes us to intentionally address whatever is causing the pain.

Passion, on the other hand, positively PULLS us towards our career goals. It leads and inspires. It makes us come alive! When we find our passion, we’ll likely find our calling.

Three quick thoughts on pain and passion…

Career Guidance – Life First; Work Second!

Career Guidance — Don’t Get The Life/Work Order Mixed Up

Career Guidance - Life/Work BalanceLive It Forward’s mission is to equip people to make the move to the life and work they love! I’ve had the privilege of coaching over 400 clients during the past seven years, which means I’ve shared a lot of career guidance during that time. One thing I’ve noticed while sharing all this career guidance is that frequently people allow their career goals and career objectives to crowd out important life issues. Instead, the career guidance I share about making the move to the life and work you love is to determine what kind of life you want to live first, and then to become intentional and proactive about figuring out ways to make your career goals and career objectives fit that kind of life.

I know, I know…impossible.  Right?

Well…not so much.
