Pay It Forward Ideas

On a recent flight to a speaking engagement I read an article entitled Paying It Forward. You gotta know this title grabbed my attention! Pay It Forward? Live It Forward? Come on now…pay it forward ideas and live it forward ideas are cut from the same cloth.

The article was about how much Denzel Washington gives, both personally and financially, to the Boys and Girls Club of America. As I read it, several pay it forward ideas pop into my mind that I wanted to share with you.

In fact, I was so excited to share these pay it forward ideas that I couldn’t wait until I flew back home. Here’s a quick video I shot at about 11:30 PM in my hotel room. I was tired and had to be extra quiet, but I knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep until I shared a few of the pay it forward ideas that were rolling around in my head.

 Pay It Forward Ideas:

Question — Have you “paid it backwards?” Is there someone from your past who positively impacted your life? Have you said thank you? If not, be sure you do! Also, champion that person here by posting a comment about how he or she influenced you.

Idea — Are you paying it forward with the next generation? If “yes,” I’d love to hear about it here. If not, I hope the pay it forward ideas shared in this video will help you get started.

The idea of Pay It Backwards is intriguing. I’ve got a friend I’ve been meaning to pay it backwards. His father passed away a couple of years ago. Even through that pain he was going forth and doing good work, ministering to others, comforting them through their pain. Something about that has touched me and I want to give something back to him.

Saying “thank you” and “way to go” is always encouraging. Go for it, Joe.

    Kent, great reminder.
One of my mentors was great at shaping my direction. He continuously pummeled me with hard questions about my life to shape me into the man that I am. One idea he taught me was to acknowledge everyone with respect and thankfulness.
This year I made it my goal to start a blog. As my thanks to him, we are collaborating together on a website to push his business. He was so enthusiastic about my effort to help him!
His teaching came full circle. I found a way to make him feel appreciated. It felt great!

Now I need to thank the other hundred people that have shaped my life…Thanks Kent.

Alex, thanks for sharing. Sounds like you are truly living it forward by paying it both backwards & forwards. Keep at it!

I believe I’m where I’m at now is because of the people God sent into my life. I have had pastors, mentors, and father figures who have cared and added value to my life. I still thank them and show them my appreciation for them and their impact on my life. I now want to do the same for others.

I love the talent quote you mentioned. It’s one of my favorites. Great post.

Thanks, Dan. One of the greatest blessings there is in life is to have solid people investing in our lives so that we can turn around and do the same.
